About James Moriarty

James Moriarty

Associate Attorney

James Moriarty is an Associate Attorney at Mellin Robinson, where he focuses his practice exclusively on family law. James earned his bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University and his Juris Doctor from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law. While in law school, James clerked for judges in the family divisions of both the Macomb and Oakland County Circuit Courts. That experience gave him direct insight into judicial decision-making, and it continues to shape his strategic approach to every case. James has represented clients in trials and contested hearings in over a dozen Circuit Courts throughout Michigan, handling virtually every type of family law matter, including divorce, custody, parenting time, child support, spousal support, and contempt proceedings. He is equally committed to achieving results through negotiation when a settlement serves his client’s interests, recognizing that a favorable resolution outside the courtroom is just as meaningful as one after a contested proceeding. He believes in continuous improvement and invests significant effort into sharpening every aspect of his practice, from client guidance to courtroom presentation. James understands that each client’s situation is unique, and he prides himself on tailoring his approach to guide them through the extraordinarily difficult times that family law matters bring.

Outside the office, James and his family enjoy traveling, with theme parks being a particular favorite. He and his wife are frequent concertgoers, and James is a devoted dog lover, especially when it comes to the family dog, Lily.
